My son found a ‘raccoon’ in the yard the other day. He’s since been corrected and pressured me into adopting it.
I was going to keep her outside in our detached garage until I got her to the vet but we had a random cold snap with snow and I caved. She is so much smaller than she looks under the fluff, just a skimmy kittem. Her first order of business was to sneak into my room and pee on my bed while I slept but we’re moving forward with grace and forgiveness.

She seems so relieved to be back inside a house and safe, the back of her neck is all bit up and bald from another cat so we have an expedited vet/spay appointment on the 5th for cat number SIX. Ugh. The children have named her Sparkleface, I call her Sparkie.

Honestly, this is the kind of parenting that we like to see. There is love toward animals written all over this story. Whenever older people hear “raccoon”, the last thing that they generally think about is bonding with it, but this kid… This kid saw a cute animal, and it didn't matter to him what it was. He just wanted to give it love. Of course, it's a giant bonus that the animal was a kitten and that they could keep it, since a raccoon might not have allowed it quite as easily.

The mom caving so quickly is also a sign of a good human in our book. Even after the pee incident - no anger, no resentment. It's a cat, it's a new environment, the kitty is trying to get used to it as best as it can. That's how it is, and the mom clearly understands it. This is one “raccoon” who we know is in good hands now.
